At West River Electric Association, our job is to provide safe, reliable electric service to the members and communities we serve. In our part of western South Dakota, wildfire risk is something we all need to take seriously. Dry conditions, high winds, grassland, forested areas, and continued growth near wild land areas can all increase the chance of wildfire.
While WREA works year-round to reduce wildfire risk through vegetation management, line inspections, equipment maintenance, system upgrades, crew training, and coordination with local emergency responders, wildfire prevention is not something one organization can do alone. It takes awareness and preparation from everyone.
By sharing useful fire mitigation information, WREA hopes to help members better understand wildfire risks and take simple, proactive steps to protect their homes, property, families, and communities. This includes staying aware of National Weather Service alerts, preparing for fire season, and learning more about fire prevention in areas where homes and other buildings are located near grasslands, trees, or other natural fuels.
Wildfire preparedness starts with awareness. WREA encourages members to review these resources, stay informed during changing weather conditions, and take practical steps to reduce fire risk around their homes and property.
